There are many things to consider when buying real estate. Location is very important of course as well as the price. The amount of savings you have for a rainy day is a factor as well as the potential property taxes. It’s important to make a checklist of all the things you’ll need and things you need to do in order to buy a home. The most important thing however make be to limit your mistakes. Some mistakes are easy to undo when buying a home but others are still more costly. Here are two mistakes to avoid when buying your first home.
1.) Not buying the right house for you- Deciding that you made a mistake buying a home with one bathroom is a tough realization to make as you are moving in your new furniture. Indeed, this is not the right time to be have the 1.5 or more bathroom discussion. All too often a young family will move into a new home and then realize that it doesn’t accommodate all of their needs. Perhaps you intended for your son to a have a finished basement for his drum kit but you just forgot when you saw the in ground pool. Be sure to have all of these types of conversations before you move into your new home and close on the sale.
2.) Making purchases after securing your loan- When you are a high school senior, your acceptance into college is contingent upon you finishing your senior year in good standing. Much the same happens when you get a mortgage loan. Do not buy a car after securing your mortgage or make any other big purchases on your credit cards either. This can have the damaging effect of worsening your credit score resulting in the revoking of your mortgage.
These are two common blunders of first time home buyers.
